Mini Wonders with Chay Hoon
June 23, 2014
Veteran Hantu Blog diver and nudibranch enthusiast, Toh Chay Hoon, joined the our dive over the weekend at Pulau Hantu. She writes, “Had my compressed air fix with The Hantu Bloggers today! Though visibility was not that good…..about 1m-2m, we still saw some wonderful stuff! The water temperature was about 30℃. At this site, I saw only a few partially bleaching corals while most of them looked rather okay at the shallow end.” Above: Cuthona sibogae
Dermatobranchus sp. looks like it’s got clubs for antennae
Divers who saw Ceratosoma gracillimum for Slender ceratosoma for the first time yesterday, could only exclaim, “Whoa! It’s huge!”
Phyllidia ocellata in a rare pale colour form
Gymnodoris sp. feeding on a hydroid
Razorfish hide along the spines of a diadema sea urchin
Hydroid burrowed into whip coral
Squid eggs attached to green branching sponge! And we saw a squid too, but it disappeared quickly into the blue. They are much harder to see than cuttlefish and they are a lot more skittish. Clearly, there is a lot more going on on our reefs than we are aware off! And our regular trips only give up a tiny glimpse of all that’s happening in our waters. Thank you to Chay Hoon for giving us a macro look at life at Pulau Hantu!
